Horowhenua Learning Centre/Life to the Max is seeking a passionate Kaiako/Tutor to join our team and empower our learners through literacy and numeracy education. In this rewarding role, you’ll be supporting learners to build essential literacy, numeracy, and life skills, giving them the confidence and tools to take their next step into further education, training or employment.
WHO WE ARE?
HLC/LTTM is a provider of high-quality vocational education and training programmes. We deliver focused vocational programmes at NZQF Levels 1 – 3 to prepare students for employment or to staircase into higher educational qualifications. Life to the Max is our social services arm, providing many forms of wrap around support if required and further helping youth and young adults reach their potential.
ABOUT THIS ROLE:
We are seeking an experienced, energetic and inspiring tutor who can make learning fun and engaging for our learners. This role is focussed on supporting our learners as they build their life skills, and their literacy and numeracy abilities by providing a fun and safe learning environment.
This is a full time, permanent position, tutoring in our Life Skills programme.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES WILL INCLUDE:
Creating a fun, safe, culturally grounded space for learners to grow in confidence.
Delivering an engaging, hands-on programme.
Supporting skill development in areas like numeracy, literacy, self-reflection, CV writing, job searching, digital literacy, and life skills.
Tailoring learning plans and lessons to meet individual needs and as applied to the literacy and numeracy context.
Working collaboratively within a close-knit, passionate team.
OUR IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:
A solutions-based mindset and a belief that everyone can succeed.
Experience as a tutor/teacher within a school or training establishment is desirable.
Hold or willing to work towards Assessor [4098] course.
National or NZ Certificate in Adult Literacy and Numeracy Education (Vocational/Workplace) or a willingness to complete the certificate.
Ability to build positive and respectful relationships with learners.
Able to work with challenging and vulnerable young people without judgement.
Ability to create, plan, organize, deliver, and assess program content.
Solid computer skills (e.g., MS Office), with confidence in report writing.
Proven commitment to providing innovative, inclusive, and culturally responsive teaching strategies.
The ability to work in a collaborative environment.
A high level of interpersonal, relationship building, and communication skills with an interactive teaching style.
A full, clean and current drivers licence.

ABOUT THE ROLE
This role requires you to work with Ministry of Social Development clients to place them into employment or higher education. This will include on-going in work support. You will be competent in assisting clients with CV’s and Cover letters, interview skills and working beside them to overcome barriers to employment and other related skills.
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
Effective communication, administration and interpersonal skills including good computer literacy skills for record management.
Ability to network with local employers to build and maintain relationships and understand the local job market.
Excellent time management and able to prioritise workloads and meet targets on time.
Demonstrate knowledge of and commitment to tikanga Māori, te reo and Te Tiriti o Waitangi
A full pre-employment safety check and police vet in accordance with Vulnerable Children regulations and a current, full driver’s licence are required for this role.

ABOUT THE ROLE
This role is within our Social Services team, Life to the Max. You will be based at one of the Horowhenua Colleges during term time supporting students in your capacity as Youth Coordinator– College team.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide effective, timely and responsive supports to young people
Work in partnership with young people and their families to assess, plan, implement, review, and monitor a range of intervention strategies
Liaise effectively with key service providers and statutory agencies engaged with the young person to ensure they contribute to and support the plan for each young person
Ensure risk management processes and practices are in place to protect young people and others from harm
Maintain records, statistics and provide monitoring reports as required by service and organisation.
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
Social work degree / Youth Work qualification or equivalent
Experience working with youth or vulnerable people and whānau
Knowledge and/or skill in tikanga Māori, te reo Māori and the articles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi
Ability to build and maintain effective relationships with external stakeholders to achieve access to support services for young people
An understanding of the impact of trauma, adolescent brain development and youth development approaches
Skills in behaviour management and conflict resolution
An understanding of disability, mental health, substance abuse and the impact these can have on the life of a rangatahi
Strong computer literacy
A pre-employment police and safety check, including full vetting in accordance with Vulnerable Children requirements is required for this role, as is a current, full NZ driver’s licence.

Administration Officer
Horowhenua Learning Centre/Life to the Max (HLC/LTTM) requires a skilled and motivated administration officer with at least 3-5 years’ experience, to provide first rate administrative, office, and client support at our Levin campus.

About the role
Reporting to the Team Leader Administration and working closely with the wider team, this role is all about excellent administration support, reporting, compliance, reception enquiries, and offering calming and practical client support, such as navigating Study Link with a prospective student. You will need to be a self-starter, with a focus on people, and willing to get stuck in and help wherever needed. Shortlisted applicants will have:
Years of experience in office administration, real time information management, data integrity, online reporting & compliance, as well as face to face client support
Proven ability to mix collaborative work with your portfolio demands in client database management, time-critical online funder reporting programmes, and helping others to manage systems, software, and change
Excellent customer service, event management, multi-tasking, and problem-solving skills
An eye for detail, high levels of accuracy, and calmness under pressure
A cheerful, honest, can-do attitude, and absolute discretion
